ABNC offers something for everyone

With 2500 acres of the natural wetlands, forest, prairies and all of our attractions, it can be a bit tough to decide where to start on your visit to ABNC.  Below are some suggestions

If you're only visiting us for a short time (1-2 Hours), you're not going to want to miss the Discovery Loop, which will give you a glimpse of ABNC's Wetlands, Prairie Grasslands, and Forest.  The Discovery Loop will also take you to our Environmental Learning Center with displays of living reptiles, fish and amphibians, interactive John P. McGovern Children’s Discovery Area, the Bison Viewing Platform and our authentic 1800's farm site.

If you have more time to spend with us, you can enjoy not only the Discovery Loop but you can also take some time to explore our more than 5 miles of well maintained trails that provide .25 mile to 1.5 mile loops though ABNC's stunning forest, prairie, marsh and natural bayou habitats which were once common in the Houston/Galveston area.  If you have even more time, make plans for one of our exciting Activities or Events.

Prepare for your visit to ABNC

Our preserve protects three unique wetland ecosystems: riparian forest, tidal marshes, and the endangered coastal tallgrass prairie. During the wetter months, please wear water-resistant shoes, rain boots, or shoes that can get muddy so that you can fully enjoy each of these ecosystems on our trails!

During the warm months of the year, we suggest visitors bring hats, sun visors, sunglasses, umbrellas, water, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

During the cool months please dress in layers as the weather usually changes throughout the day.

We all love to see wildlife, but animals don’t always cooperate. ABNC can’t guarantee animal sightings, but you can improve your chances of spotting wildlife by following Tips for Seeing Wildlife.

Bring water as there isn't any sold on the premises, note that there are no glass containers. See Rules and Regulations for further details.

There is ample parking and it is Free!
