Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) Nature Day Camp Counselor 

Join a team of creative, energetic individuals who work together to connect children with nature through educational, recreational and cultural experiences. ABNC is in search of Nature Day Camp Counselors with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children by providing dynamic programs in the outdoors. Counselors will lead campers from 4-13 years old and facilitate experiences in the areas of field ecology, historic farm life, sensory awareness, wildlife studies and nature crafts. Campers attend from 8:30-11:30 OR 8:30-3:30 Monday through Friday. Weekly camp sessions run from June 3 to August 2, 2024 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

1. Supervise campers, ensuring their safety and well-being 

2. Plan and deliver daily topics following the goals and objectives for each program 

3. Follow and enforce all camp policies, rules and regulations 

4. Communicate with families regarding camper needs, safety concerns, dietary considerations and camp highlights/experiences 

5. Mentor ABNC Volunteens who are assigned to your group 

6. Other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or Program Coordinator 

7. Communicate well with Leadership 

8. Be punctual

Qualifications: 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and able to work in the USA 

  • Experience and desire to work in an outdoor setting 

  • First aid and CPR certifications preferred. ABNC Child Abuse Awareness training required Preference will be given to those who have earned or are working toward a degree in outdoor recreation, biology, ecology, environmental education or a related field Knowledge of local natural resources, (ecology, identification of birds, plants, etc...) Ability to think on your feet and be flexible 

  • Good oral communications skills
